Week of 4/29

LANGUAGE ARTS Our scholars will continue our novel study of Charlotte’s Web. Students will practice writing summaries, drawing conclusions about characters, and making inferences as we continue this childhood classic. Students will look for signposts to help us identify important parts in our story that add depth to our understanding and comprehension. Students will look for advice an older or wiser character gives another character, patterns that may repeat in the text, and any “a-ha” moments a character has that may lead to identifying the theme or lesson in the text.

WRITING Our writers will continue to utilize their research skills as they delve into the contributions of famous figures such as Cesar Chavez and Helen Keller. They will also continue to form opinions concerning trends in the systems of nature as they craft persuasive arguments from multiple perspectives on these trends.

MATH As mathematicians, students will continue our fraction unit. They will be comparing, creating, and exploring various fractions of sets, regions, and number lines. Students will identify where fractions live in the number line, how to record them, and dissecting fractions to understand fractional parts of a whole. As we wrap up this unit this week, we will begin probability.

CONTENT Our scientists will investigate biomes around the world and their relationship with climate and the equator. Students will research each biome including abiotic and biotic elements within these areas and how they interact together. Students will use multiple pathways to investigate the interdependence of plants and animals of these biomes.
